Abstract

Gold ore characterization which includes chemical, physical, and mineralogical properties needs to be carried out to determine gold processing methods and design parameters as well as tailings processing. This study focuses on discussing the physical properties of gold ore in the Lebak Gedong area, Lebak, Banten to support the results of the analysis of the chemical properties of the ore, in particular to determine the type of gold ore and to determine the optimum grinding time to achieve the majority grain size of the ore -200 mesh. The analysis carried out for physical characterization was visual analysis, as well as grain size analysis based on grinding time, namely 0 hours, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, and 4 hours. Grain size analysis was carried out using the ASTM D6913 method and using sieves measuring 80, 100, 140, and 200 mesh, which were performed manually. Based on the results of the analysis of the percentage weight of the grain size and the percentage of retained weight, the optimum grinding time is more than 4 hours with a size of -200 mesh.
